This year's World Travel Awards ceremony, which took place in Batumi (Georgia), once again had Portugal as its main highlight. Portugal shone at the World Travel Awards ceremony, held in the city of Batumi (Georgia), by being awarded several awards, consolidating itself as a tourist destination of excellence in Europe. The highlight of the ceremony was the awarding of the title of ‘Best Tourist Destination in Europe’, where Portugal received the recognition it deserved for its charm, natural wealth and stunning landscapes. The Portuguese country impressed both visitors and judges with its hospitality and variety of attractions. However, the honors were not limited to the country as a whole, there were specific regions that were also distinguished. The city of Lisbon was voted ‘Best City Destination in Europe’, while the city of Porto received the title of ‘Best European Destination for Urban Getaways’, solidifying itself as a cultural and cosmopolitan refuge. The golden beaches and mild climate of the Algarve earned this region the award for ‘Best Beach Destination in Europe’, attracting sun and sea lovers from all over the world. The island of Madeira, known for its mountainous and lush landscapes, was crowned as the 'Best Island Destination in Europe', while the Passadiços do Paiva, in Arouca (Aveiro), were recognized as the 'Best Adventure Tourism Attraction' , providing visitors with a unique experience in nature. In addition to these regions, there were also national companies that shined at the World Travel Awards ceremony. TAP received the awards for ‘Best European Airline for Africa and South America’, while the Port of Lisbon was awarded the title of ‘Best Cruise Port’. DouroAzul stood out in the category of ‘Best River Cruise Company’, offering unique experiences along the majestic Douro River. The Portuguese hotel industry was also recognized with several awards for hotel establishments. The Pestana Porto Santo All-Inclusive (Madeira Island) won the award for ‘Best Inclusive Resort’, while the Verride Palácio Santa Catarina (Lisbon) received the title of ‘Best Boutique Hotel’. The awards in the categories 'Best Island Resort', 'Best Monument Hotel' and 'Best Luxury Boutique Hotel' also came to Portugal, more specifically to Saccarum (Madeira Island), Bairro Alto Hotel (Lisbon) and Valverde Hotel (Lisbon), respectively. The Pestana Palace (Lisbon) was recognized as the 'Best Luxury Business Hotel', the Dunas Douradas Beach Club (Almancil) won the award for 'Best Villa Resort', the Cascade Wellness (Lagos) was voted the 'Best Sports Resort', the Martinhal Sagres Beach Family Resort (Sagres) received the title of 'Best Villa Resort', L'And Vineyards (Montemor-o-Novo) was crowned the 'Best Hotel in the Wine Region' and Monte Santo Resort (Carvoeiro) was considered the 'Most Romantic Resort'. Last but not least, Dark Sky Alqueva (Évora) received the 'Responsible Tourism' award, promoting sustainable tourism and environmental preservation, and Quake – Lisbon Earthquake Museum was the 'Best New Tourist Attraction'. The World Travel Awards 2023 proved once again that Portugal is a destination of choice, recognized for its diversity and quality of tourist experiences.
