BIG INFRASTRUCTURE NEWS FOR THE MINHO! VALENÇA | MONÇÃO | MELGAÇO → GALICIA SPAIN
Something very important is happening in the Alto Minho, and if you own property, are considering Moving and Investing in Portugal, this is something worth watching closely.
The construction of the Valença–Monção–Melgaço bypass, extending toward Salvaterra and As Neves in Galicia, with a new international connection of approximately 300 metres, has been identified as a top road infrastructure priority by the CIM Alto Minho.
And it doesn't stop there.
The broader infrastructure plans also include the potential extension of the A28 between Vila Nova de Cerveira and the Sapardos junction, and potentially onward toward Valença, depending on the solution selected following the necessary technical studies.
The numbers are significant: approximately €135 million in investment in the road network of the Viana do Castelo district, with the Government identifying these projects among the priorities to be advanced through 2028.
But what does this mean for real estate?
This is where things get particularly interesting.
Infrastructure doesn't just move cars.
It moves people. It moves businesses. It moves investment. And, over time, it can move real estate values.
Improved road connections between Valença, Monção, Melgaço and Galicia can make the region more accessible for residents, commuters, businesses, visitors and international buyers.
And that matters enormously in a region where one of its greatest assets is its location:

That is why I believe these infrastructure projects are much more than roads.
They are investments in the future of the Alto Minho.
And for those of us who have been watching the evolution of Valença, Monção, Melgaço and the wider Minho region, this is another reason to keep an eye on what is happening here.
Because sometimes the smartest real estate opportunities aren't necessarily where everyone is looking today...
They're where tomorrow's infrastructure is being built.
The Minho is coming into its own.
